Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised everyone after announcing earlier this year that they’re giving up their British royal life. They’ve also decided to spend their time in between North America and the United Kingdom amidst the consequences that they’re quite aware of. Now, the Queen expressed herself about how this decision will shape her relationship with their son, Archie.
The First-Born Son of Meghan And Prince Harry
Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor is the first-born son of Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry. The proud dad finally disclosed the baby’s birth to the media just four days after the new royal baby was born. He also revealed that the newborn’s weight was just a little more than 7 pounds.
What Prince Harry Has To Say
Prince Harry sounded ecstatic and overjoyed about his son’s birth as seen in his press conference. Aside from that, he expressed his appreciation for all the people who loved and supported them throughout their new journey as a couple. It was such a happy moment in their life and they wanted to share that happiness with everyone.
A Mother’s Love
In fact, Prince Harry was with his wife when their son, Archie, was born. He couldn’t contain how proud and amazed he was for both of them. However, the Duke of Sussex wasn’t alone during Meghan’s labor. Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, was also present to support her daughter during the ordeal. It wasn’t a question that the new grandmother was also overjoyed at the arrival of her very first grandchild.
As expected, Archie’s birth was celebrated not just by family but by so many people worldwide. Most countries showed their merriment and support to the royal family by lighting up some locations — such as the London Eye’s multicolored light display. The CN Tower and Niagara Falls also showed their pride and signifying their close connection with the royal couple.
A couple of months after this celebration, Archie had his christening at the Queen’s Windsor chapel. The ceremony was intimate as close family and friends witnessed Archie’s baptism as conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The proud parents did post some mementos of their son’s solemn event for their social media followers.
New Royal Baby, Not A Prince
Now, Archie is the Queen’s, or to her brood, “Gan-gan”, eighth great-grandchild. However, because of the British royalty’s complex ruling, he isn’t considered as a prince although his cousins are princes and a princess. The, then, youngest royal’s parents have been clear that they didn’t want any kind of title for him anyway. He could have been known as one of his dad’s titles — Earl of Dumbarton. But, both Meghan and Harry have opposed this suggestion.
Duchess of Sussex, Hands-On Mum
After showing a glimpse of Archie on his baptismal photos, it was only during his father’s play at the Billingbear Polo Club near London that the royal baby has been spotted again. This time, he’s alongside his royal cousins having a worthwhile day out. It was also evident in the photos that Meghan kept a close eye and distance on her son.
Welcoming A New Year
To mark the onset of the year 2020, the new royal family released a charming photo including a New Year’s greeting. Although the public may have figured that it was natural to have limited viewing of the royal youngster, there was actually more to it. Harry and Meghan intended to lead a more private life in the future.
A Road Less Travelled By Royals
It was early in January 2020 that the royal couple shared in their social media accounts that they’re giving up their roles of being “senior royals.” Furthermore, they intend to spend their time between the United Kingdom and Canada. This would also mean that they would provide for themselves financially.
Getting The Royal Family Involved
The announcement led to a series of talks with the Queen and the rest of the “senior royals.” In one event, particularly the “Sandringham Summit,” that Meghan and Harry attended, the couple were informed of what would happen going forward. This includes the fact that they are no longer doing royal duties.
What The Queen Has to Say
The Queen also shared her personal statement regarding the royal couple’s decision. She revealed that the entire royal family has their complete support to the plans of the young family to be independent. Although, it was also apparent that the Queen was a bit upset and would have preferred for her grandchildren to continue serving with the Royal Family.
Archie Spends Time With Cousins
As Meghan and Harry gradually withdraw from their public duties, this meant that Archie was spending lesser time with his paternal side of the family. Needless to say, the royal baby has spent most of his time only with cousins from his father’s brother, William.
Lesser Time With Royal Family
However, not only the kids are seeing each other less often. Although The Queen was present days after Archie’s birth, unfortunately, she wasn’t able to attend to her great-grandchild’s christening since she and her husband had a previous engagement that they needed to attend to. Following that, the family also wasn’t able to spend Christmas holidays together as Harry, Meghan, Archie chose to spend it in Canada.
The Queen’s Sentiments
As Archie and his parents are staying more often in Canada, it also means he’ll be seeing his “Gan-gan” less often. According to an insider that spoke to The Sunday Times, the monarch felt that this change will truly affect the family ties. She’s very sad to be thinking of how Archie will be growing up not close to his cousins and wider family.
Just Like Any Other Family
In fact, Archie hasn’t seen English soil in the first few months when the new year came as he’s with his mother, Meghan in Canada. Although announcements have been made, it still wasn’t clear how Archie will be able to see his great-grandmother. Although it isn’t too uncommon for some families to drift from each other, the public only wishes the best for the Royal Family.
