We hope you are ready to read about how some fishermen made the discovery of a lifetime. It was something that tested the limits of their bond as well as their personal boundaries. It started out as a normal fishing expedition before it turned into a rescue mission once they noticed something right on top of the iceberg. They managed to show the world just how big their hearts are when they took action during a situation in which most people would prefer to do nothing. Get your tissues because this is a story that will give you hope in humanity once more.
The Trio
Cliff Russel, Allan Russel, and Mallory Harrigan are all good friends who like to go out and fish together. Considering their arrangement, it made a lot of sense that they wanted to turn the hobby into a business! They bought a fishing boat and began a fishing company they get to call their own.

The Trio
One Boat
Even though they only had a boat and a three-person crew, they always have a blast when they head out to work. They live in Canada, in an ideal place for fishing. The three of them were already familiar with all the fish you can find in the area. On top of this, they also knew what consumers tend to buy during which season.

One Boat
Into The Unknown
At any rate, they did not always know what to expect every time they went out to the open seas. They never assumed that the day ahead of them was going to be an easy day at work. However, they saw something that forever changed the course of their lives.

Into The Unknown
Fishing Lifestyle
Did you know that fishing is one of the most demanding jobs one can have? Fishermen often wake up very early to prepare for a rough day at sea. After that, they spend a lot of energy and time out in the water in the hopes of catching a lot of fish. They do this on a day to day basis, which means they have already gotten used to this. No matter how difficult it might be, the three of them love spending time there.

Fishing Lifestyle
Built On Friendship
Fishing is a very serious business, and it might even challenge the strongest friendships in the world. This situation had the opportunity to end the friendship they have fostered over the years. Allen, Mallory, and Cliff still kept going with their business but remained good friends after they put the business up. In fact, working together only made them even closer than they used to be.

Built On Friendship
Job Duties
Every day, they would go out and sail on difficult seas. They spent long hours on the water. It was not uncommon for them to return home with bumps, bruises, and minor injuries. Even though they underwent hardships like these, they liked what they did.

Job Duties
Hard At Work
None of them ever complained about the challenges they faced whenever they went on their fishing trips. Quitting has never crossed their minds either! The love they had for one another and the work they do motivate them to keep going no matter how tough things can get. How admirable is that?

Hard At Work
Morning
The story started when the three of them went out to the open water one fine morning. The sky was clear as the crab fishermen hailing from Labrador in Canada set sail. There was no reason to think that this day was going to be any different from the ones that came before it.

Morning
One Fine Day
It was a day that would change their lives forever, although they had no idea this would happen at the time. They all got ready for another day out in the water as usual. Mallory even had a great feeling about the day ahead of them, although she never guessed what they would later encounter out there.

One Fine Day
Just Like Any Other Day
She got up even earlier than she usually did and then prepped the boat before the others could get to it. Although it was far too early, she felt motivated and cheerful about the trip they were about to take.

Just Like Any Other Day
Lists
Once they were all ready to head out, they first went through the things they had to do. They made the list to ensure that their safety was going to be a priority during the trip. This meant they had emergency tools they might need in case things go south.

Lists
Preparation
If they had forgotten to prepare or accomplish something on this list, it might translate to a longer day at work since they might have to return to the dock to get whatever it was that they left behind. No one wanted that to happen, so they tried to make sure the checklist has been ticked off from the beginning.

Preparation
Heading Out To The Sea
Who would have thought that preparing the boat was typically the easiest part of the job? The three of them often spent time telling one another stories and just joking around. Even though they have known each other for a long time, they never ran out of things to discuss.

Heading Out
A New Day
Every morning, the three of them would talk on and on. It can sometimes feel like they have not seen each other for a while! When it comes to things like these, it was another one of those days. The three worked together to prepare for the trip but did not forget to chat and laugh around while they were at it. None of them expected what they would see out in the water.

A New Day
The Calm Before The Storm
One might even call this moment the proverbial “calm” before the storm! Of course, the water had been clear that morning, so this is only a figure of speech. They took the boat to a great crabbing spot off the coast. They sailed for a couple of miles before they got there. It was the perfect place to catch crabs!

The Calm Before The Storm
Dropping Their Baskets
When they got to the spot, they then turned off the boat engine and stayed in the area. They already knew that this was the best spot to get crabs, so they were hopeful they would have an awesome catch to bring home with them. They set up the crab pots and threw them out to the ocean floor, hoping there were many crustaceans out there. They just had to wait now.

Dropping Baskets
Record-Breaking Year
They had to sit back and let the cages drag along the ocean floor in order to give the crustaceans the time and space to hop in and get the bait. Even though it was near the end of the crab season, they still had high hopes they would bring home a great loot.

Record-Breaking Year
Out Of Luck
The last few weeks had been good to them as they caught a lot of crabs whenever they headed out. However, they still worried that their good luck might have run out. They had a great record for the year, but they did not want anything to change whatsoever.

Out Of Luck
Omen In Crabs
The three fishermen distributed the load by assigning one of them to man the boat as the other two took the lines and ensured they did not get tangled along the way. This was pretty routine for them, and there was nothing unusual about the way they proceeded. They made sure that everything was going well, that the cages were in the water as usual. What was going to come next?

Omen
Best Day
When it was time to pull out the crab cages, the three of them were astonished. It was easily the best fishing day they have had so far! They exchanged high fives and took out their catch. They then returned the cages in the water and repeated the entire process.

Best Day
A New Fishing Spot
As the day went on, the crabs kept coming for them. It was beginning to look like the day to shatter all the records they previously had. The three of them finished their work in the first place they went to, eager to see if they would have even better luck somewhere else. They headed for the colder waters, even though they knew there were more risks the farther they went.

New Fishing Spot
Dangerous Waters
They could not even see birds that far from the shore. However, everything seemed calm and peaceful. The truth was that this was not the case! The seals hanging out on icebergs knew of the dangers there.

Dangerous Waters
One Wrong Turn
There were many icebergs floating on the Labrador Sea. This was an area that could be very risky no matter how experienced or skilled a fisherman you might be. If the boat took a wrong turn or missed some vital details of the trip, it could translate to their death.

One Wrong Turn
Something Up Ahead
Allan was posted to lookout duty, so he was the one who saw the huge iceberg ahead of them. He had been navigating around the huge chunk of ice when he noticed something. Even though they saw icebergs on a daily basis, there was something different about this one.

Something Up Ahead
Something Off
The sun was incredibly bright on that day, which made it somewhat more difficult for them to get a long look at what was in front of the boat. When his two companions checked out what he saw, they also came to the conclusion that something was off here. However, they could not yet pinpoint what it was.

Something Off
The Iceberg Appears!
As they approached the iceberg, they finally managed to see what was bothering them so much. On top of the iceberg was a dark spot, although it was still hard to figure out what it was from where they stood. Mallory thought it was a seal hoping for some sunlight. However, something was wrong about it.

Iceberg
Taking A Closer Look
Cliff was under the impression that Mallory was on the right track. The creature on the iceberg must be a seal. This was nothing unusual as the creatures were common in this part of the world. However, Allan could not let it go. He was convinced that there was something off about the whole thing.

Closer Look
What Could It Be?
After he took a look using his binoculars, Allen let them know that it did not look like any seal they have previously seen. Aside from that, the creature moved in a different way. They inspected the black thing some more, and they all agreed that something about this creature looked strange. It seems like Allen was actually onto something here. The three of them agreed to find out what was going on.

What Could It Be?
Getting Closer
Even though the three of them still had half a day at sea, they decided they needed to take a closer look at this animal. They were curious and wanted to get to the bottom of things. They first needed to see what was on top of the iceberg, so they needed to get closer. The temperature was beginning to go down, and the wind was starting to pick up as they edged closer to the formation.

Getting Closer
The Investigation
It was dangerous to stray from the usual route, but Allen convinced his two friends that they needed to do this. If they did not listen to him, they would never have found out what exactly was going on there.

Investigation
Approaching
They decided they needed to get to the bottom of things. Even though Mallory and Cliff did not think this was a dire situation, they were convinced by Allen. After all, they did not want to leave a wounded animal in the cold. They made their decision, so they approached the iceberg in question.

Approaching
Chilling Temperatures
Immediately, it became clear that the animal stranded on the iceberg came with fur. It was also soaked through. The wind was picking up, so they could tell that this small creature might not make it if they waited for long. At that moment, they knew they had to do everything they could to help it. While they still had no idea what it was, they did not have any reservations about helping it.

Chilling Temperatures
Advance Slowly
It was important for them to go slowly as they headed towards that part of the water. A piece of ice could be all it takes to damage the boat. The worst-case scenario was a capsized boat that would leave them as stranded as the creature they were trying to help. They did not it to happen, so they needed to keep their eyes peeled for any dangers.

Careful
Constant Watch
To make matters even more stressful, the waves began to climb higher and higher as well. The movement of the boat seemed more precarious. Mallory needed to warn her friends to act more cautiously as well. The three felt both excited and curious as they got closer to the iceberg. However, they knew better than to act rashly. Two of them kept an eye on potential dangers in the ocean.

Constant Watch
Rough Seas
Sadly, the wind only got stronger and stronger. The waves began to rock both the boat and the iceberg. The crew could deal with the huge waves, but they knew the animal might start to panic now.

Rough
Ice Blocks
They needed to worry about more than just ice blocks in the way now. Mallory felt scared because the poor animal might decide to get out off there and jump into the water instead. They only needed to move a little more now. Perhaps closing the distance would make her figure things out.

Ice Blocks
Pursuing A Piece Of Ice
Now that the wind was blowing and the waves were getting higher, they found the iceberg moving away from them! They started to get worried about their safety, the boat, and the animal they wanted to rescue. They could see that the creature was now pacing on top of the iceberg.

Pursuing Ice
Tricky Circumstances
They wanted to stay near the iceberg, so they needed to speed up the boat a little. This made it even trickier to navigate the waters. The dangerous situation got even worse because it was starting to get dark. They needed to get back to shore before night fell.

Tricky Circumstances
Getting A Glimpse
As they got closer to the iceberg, the three of them finally got a closer look at the animal. They saw that it looked similar to a dog. Like a canine, it came with four legs. However, there was no way it was a puppy! After all, there was no way for a dog to get there.

Getting a Glimpse
Helpless
They also noticed that the animal was shivering and soaking wet. They then got to work to save this poor creature. They needed to do anything they could to ensure that this animal would not freeze to death. They went out of their way to do everything in their power to help the creature.

Helpless
Arctic Fox
As they got even closer, they finally realized what the creature actually was. They were looking at an Arctic fox! They had no time to wonder just how this fox ended up in that position. All that mattered to them was that this animal was so weak and cold. There were even birds circling above it! They needed to get moving as soon as possible if they wanted to save the fox.

Arctic Fox
Not A Family Pet
It seemed like the other animals knew the end was near for this fox. They decided that it was important for them to move quickly to make sure it was going to be safe. The three of them decided to stop fishing for the moment to ensure that they can deal with the situation right in front of them. With their minds set, they kept going even though it was risky for them too.

Not A Pet
A Bold Rescue Attempt
The fox was soaked, freezing, and running out of time. The three of them had to come up with some plan to rescue it. Even so, there was one more big problem here. Will the poor animal even trust them?

Bold Attempt
Good Intentions
The three of them did not know if this creature had any contact with people in the past. They knew it was common for wild animals to behave viciously if they were approached. Even though they had good intentions, it was possible that the creature might not take kindly to their efforts.

Good Intentions
A Wild Fox
The first thing they wanted to accomplish was to tame the poor fox. They stretched their hands out and talked quietly as they approached the creature. They called out to the animal. This was the kind of thing that would make a tame animal go to them.

Wild Fox
Getting Away
However, the Arctic fox was proving that it was no tamed house pet. In fact, it only inched away from the trio. There was no place for it to go, so it was basically trapped on the chunk of ice. It only stared at the humans reaching out to it. The animal was not going to approach them, but they did not give up.

Getting Away
A Waiting Game
They failed to lure the fox several times, and they soon came to the realization that it was not going to come to them. They had to be patient about this scenario. The only thing they could do now was to wait.

Waiting Game
Progress
They decided to get some rest for a little while and just keep the boat bobbing right beside the iceberg. At last, the fox finally started moving toward them. It seemed to have realized that this was the opportunity to get somewhere safe. Was it going to trust them enough to climb aboard the boat?

Progress
The Rescue
The animal approached their boat with caution. However, it was probably too weak to jump from the iceberg to the fishermen’s boat on its own. Allen then leaned over and then picked it up to bring it aboard. Finally, the fox was now on the boat! However, this was not the end of the problem just yet.

The Rescue
Back In The Water
Even though it was safer there than on the iceberg, the fox felt alarmed by seeing the humans in such close proximity. It jumped into the water in a panic! Mallory, Cliff, and Allan could only watch in horror as it returned to the iceberg. The fishermen were determined to ensure the safety of this animal. They followed the animal until it was out of energy to resist.

Back In The Water
Back Into The Boat
This is the moment Allan took the fox in his arms and the brought it to the boat once again. He could tell that the animal was scared since it tried to run away immediately. It huddled in a corner, cold and wet as it were. The situation only got worse after it jumped back into the water. The trio felt worried.

Back Into The Boat
Unanswered Questions
The cold of the breeze only ruffled its wet fur. While Allan and Cliff had towels at the ready to help it warm and dry, they did not want it to attack them. How long was it going to take before the fox would finally trust them? Was it going to last in this condition without any help? They did not want to find out.

Saving A Fox
It was important for them to warm up the fox before the cold could get to it. Mallory decided to steer them back to shore even if they were a long way from it. They were actually several miles from the shore, so it was going to take some time before they got there.

Saving a Fox
Time Is Of The Essence
The fox did not have a lot of time. Both Allan and Cliff observed the animal and waited for the opportunity to keep it warm and try. As they looked at this poor creature, they tried to come up with other ways to make sure it is safe and comfortable. What else could they do for the poor creature?

Time Is Of The Essence
A Warm Bed
Mallory came up with an idea. She thought there was something else to keep it warm – why not build a nest for the fox? Cliff and Allan only found sawdust on the boat, so they tried using it to give the tiny critter a little warmth. They gathered it and fashioned a bed for the animal. It actually worked!

A Warm Bed
Trying To Keep Warm
The put the sawdust in a plastic bin where they intended to keep the animal for security and warmth. The fox buried itself in the flakes of wood in no time at all. They also had the presence of mind to put this on the sunniest part of the boat. They hoped this would be enough to keep it warm for now.

Trying To Keep Warm
The Fox’s Bed
The next step was to get it into the bed. Allan seemed to know how to deal with this animal, so he scooped it up and then put it inside the bin full of sawdust. Only a couple of minutes after he did this, they found the animal curled up in the nest-like structure.

Fox’s Bed
Racing Back To Shore
As it slept, they made their way back to the shore. The tiny animal was warm and alive in the meantime, but they still needed to get some help to make sure it was going to make it. They tried to go home ASAP.

Racing Back To Shore
An Adjusted Course
There was still half an hour of travel to cover when Cliff took over the steering wheel. He saw that they needed to adjust the course if they wanted to reach the shore even sooner. They had no idea just how much time the fox had left, so it was important for them to keep track of every minute that goes by.

Adjusted Course
Terrified & Tired
When the boat struck a wave, the fox woke up in a panic. It was clearly tired and scared. They decided to try feeding it with some of the crabs they caught earlier in the day. They hoped that the fox would at least eat some of it to regain the strength it lost.

Terrified & Tired
Success
They succeeded in keeping the animal warm and comfortable using the makeshift bed. It was now time to give it some food for sustenance. She got some crab and fish for the fox, although the animal refused to eat these things. Was it not hungry? What food did foxes normally eat anyway?

Success
No Crabs, Please!
Mallory then went to the galley in order to get the food they normally ate there. There she found Vienna sausages. She put them in the water and gave them to the fox. It seems like this fit the fox’s preferences more as it devoured the sausages without any reservations whatsoever! She was glad to see it eating.

Sausages
Safe Return
After the fox was done eating the sausages that she offered it, the fox returned to sleep and remained asleep when they got to the shore. The noise woke it up once again, so she tried to keep it calm. Wild animals do not take kindly to loud noises. Mallory hoped it would calm down after she talked to it. She only needed the animal to stay calm until they finished docking.

Safe Return
Calming Words
She had been sitting right by the makeshift bed they made for the fox and tried talking to it. Of course, she knew it was not going to understand her. She hoped the tone of her voice was going to make it feel relaxed. They only needed the fox to stay still until they successfully docked the boat.

Calming Words
A Home For The Fox
After the boat got to the shore, they had to decide what the next course of action would be. The fox already ate and was now warm and dry, so what was next? It was a good thing Mallory knew what to do.

Home
The Perfect Spot
Mallory remembered a particular spot that would be ideal for the release of this fox. The location was also accessible from where they were. The spot did not come with any dangers, which made it perfect as a place to reintroduce the fox back into nature. They could also keep an eye on it from afar.

The Perfect Spot
The Fox’s New Home
The place they wanted to take the fox was a safe and lovely area, which was what the animal deserved. Their plan was even made better by the fact that there was a tiny dog house that was built there. Although it was located only 10 minutes from the dock, they did not actually know where the dog house was located, which is why it took them a while to find it.

A New Home
Quite Content
The three of them walked around as they tried to determine where the dog house was located. Cliff was holding the fox, and it was pleasant to see that the animal was no longer scared. It seemed to wait for their next move. At last, they finally located the dog house after going through the area for a while.

Quite Content
A Successful Rescue
They let the fox make the decisions for itself. They put the bin on the ground, not far from the dog house. After this, they stepped back and waited what it would do next. They kept an eye on the fox and found it exploring the surroundings.

Success
Apprehension
The fox stayed inside the bin for a little while. However, it gradually climbed out of the bin, shook off some of the sawdust on its fur, and walked around. It sat by the entrance and looked every bit like the wild animal it actually was.

Apprehension
Settling In
It started to settle in and explore the new surroundings. At last, the animal was safe and sound. The team could not help but feel relieved that they saved the poor creature. Can you just imagine what would have happened if they did not see it?

Settling In
Just To Be Sure
The three of them stayed back for a moment to check if the fox was going t be fine. They watched the animal roam around and check out the surroundings. They saw that it was settling down without a hitch.

Just To Be Sure
Slowly Making Its Way
At last, it was time for them to head back to the boat. They already did everything they could for the fox, so the next thing to do was return home. This ended up becoming a day they would never forget! The little adventure became a moment they would remember for the rest of their lives.

Slowly Making Its Way
Long Day
Even though it was exhausting to go fishing on a daily basis, the entire crew found that day to be even more draining than usual. They did not only tire themselves out physically but also emotionally. They could not wait to get back to the boat and make their way home. It was time for time to get some rest!

Long Day
When All Is Said And Done
As they made the journey back home, they could not help but marvel at the scene that surrounded them. It was true that they saw this nearly every single day. However, there was something about the scenery on that day that made them stare in awe. Somehow, it looked better than it normally did!

When All Is Said And Done
Internet Post
They had such an adventurous day, that was clear. Mallory Harrigan took to Instagram to post this photo with the caption, ‘Managed to nurse this little baby back to health the other day with @cliffordrussell9455 and @alanrussell7 🐺 His fur should be brown by now but he was on that piece of ice for so long that it never changed colour.’

Proud
We are sure the three of them felt proud of the rescue mission they did for the fox. The three of them posted about the situation on their social media platforms. We do not blame them at all since we would feel the same way if we were in their shoes!
