It seems like there is a never-ending supply of inspiration for Hollywood when it comes to a good villain. Most of the time, the muse behind famous movie villains was actually a real person. Take The Godfather, for instance. It’s no secret that the movie is based on Carlo Gambino’s life. The real-life mobster truly excelled at what he did, leaving a sort of legacy behind. He wasn’t the only notorious criminal to make a name for himself. There were many masterminds throughout the years who’ve really pushed the boundaries in the world of crime. Let’s take a look at some of them, shall we?
Al Capone
It might be obvious, but Al Capone was most likely the most famous mobster in history. A master of public relations, Al Capone was well-received overall by Chicago citizens. Despite the fact that his mob name was “Scarface”, people called him “Robin Hood” and even cheered whenever he made a public appearance. The reason for his adoration turned out to be a result of numerous donations he’d made and his support of multiple local charities. However, in 1931, he was convicted of tax evasion.
Albert Spaggiari
Albert Spaggiari was a notoriously clever French bank robber. In fact, his group was said to have stolen about $20 million from a bank. When he finally was caught, he was still able to escape. He confused the judge with a fake piece of evidence before he jumped out of the window during the trial and landed safely on a parked car before riding away on a planted motorcycle. The criminal was never caught until he died in 1989. That was when his body was found in his mother’s backyard.
