The “Man with No Name” in Sergio Leone’s “Dollars Trilogy” of spaghetti westerns during the middle of the 1960s and antihero cop Harry Callahan in the five Dirty Harry movies throughout the 1970s and 1980s propelled him to international prominence after finding success in the Western TV series Rawhide. Eastwood has become a perennial cultural image of masculinity in part because of these roles and others. Eastwood, who was chosen as mayor of Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, in 1986, held the position for two years.
