The Discovery
John could see that he just uncovered an entrance of some kind right in his own backyard. It looked like a hatch. He started to clean up the area surrounding it and opened the lit. He also tried not to inhale since he knew it was possible for there to be toxic gas fumes or mold. What he saw amazed him.

Upon opening the lid, he saw a bunch of sharp blades three feet below the ground. After looking at it even more closely, he saw that it was a spiral staircase that led downward. Many people would have jumped right in, but John decided to hold back. There was a good reason he decided to do this.
