Another servicewoman, Shannon Ihrke, harbored the hope that the members of her squad would show her the same level of support that Cudd’s had. During her time in the military, Ihrke kept secret. She was leading a double life, and she was afraid about what would happen if the truth was discovered about this Marine Corps Sergeant. She had been keeping this secret for quite some time.

When Ihrke was only 19 years old, she enlisted in the military. She had a challenging financial condition to deal with while she was attending college, so she investigated her various financing alternatives in order to pay for her education. Because of this, she ultimately made the choice to enlist in the armed forces, and more specifically, the Marines.
