The Convair XC-99 is not only one of the earliest military aircraft, but also one of the largest aeroplanes ever built. With its double cargo decks, this aircraft was built to have a carrying capacity of 100,000 pounds and accommodate up to 400 soldiers. Ten years after it was first introduced in 1947, this aircraft was retired. The largest piston-engined transport aircraft ever built and used is the XC-99.
