Hormonal Disorder In The Pituitary Gland
Acromegaly – a hormonal disorder that develops when your pituitary gland produces too much growth hormone during adulthood. It was 1970 when Andre learned that he was experiencing this. He was in Japan for the International Wrestling Enterprise. It caused him severe body pain but gave him an advantage inside the ring because the size of his body parts became bigger than the usual. He did not want to correct it, thus ignored surgery. He was one of the best fighters back then and later became the “Giant” in the United States.

Andre’s Unrecognizable
When Andre returned home after being five years away from his parents, they were not able to recognize him. His acromegaly changed his physical appearance, totally that he looked completely different from his former self. His parents even confessed that they once watched their son wrestle on television under the name Jean Ferre without even realizing that he was their son. This was no big deal to the Giant. Andre still managed to ask questions to his father that made him recognize his son through the twinkle of his eyes.
