John and his friends worked hard to put down several concrete layers in order to keep the rebar sturdy. They had to ensure that this would not crumble down when they use the stairs. They stabilized it all with the help of new concrete batches. Even so, things did not really go as planned because of the elements.

Summer Stench
The team could not work as quickly as they wanted thanks to the heat of the Arizona sun. Even worse, they worried that the heat might affect something inside the hatch. It was a great idea to set up a tent over the site. They also added a Sonotube cardboard structure around the entrance to avoid damaging anything. When they were done adding the cement, they seemed ready to finally go down.
