Roger Federer
There are two eras in modern tennis: the time before Federer – and the Federer era. The turning point was in 1998, when the 40-year-old, who won the Wimbledon junior tournament that same year, made his professional debut. From then on, the star of the Basel native with a South African mother rose like a comet: in 2001 he beat Sampras in the fourth round of Wimbledon. In 2003 he celebrated his first Grand Slam victory against Mark Philippoussis – also on the holy lawn.
Usain Bolt
Like the legendary quarter mile in motorsport or the marathon in endurance sports, the 100 meters are also one of those distances where we measure human potential. Usain Bolt is the fastest person over 100 meters – sprinting it in 9.58 seconds at the 2009 World Athletics Championships in Berlin – and as if he were writing – at least in terms of the maximum speed that the human body is capable of – human history.
