If you are looking for a high-top canvas shoe, Converse is probably the first thing to come to mind. The footwear company joined the market in 1908, although it had to stop production when the Second World War erupted. It worked on making military shoes for the war effort. After that, it retained certain attributes for the new collections. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2001, after which it lost its status as an American-made solo company. Nike bought the company in 2003 and started outsourcing the production in its factories in China. The shoes are now made in Vietnam, China, India, and Indonesia.

In 1975, James Jannard founded Oakley by investing $300 in what is now one of the best sunglass brands out there. Like Ray-Ban, it is now a Luxottica subsidiary. While it is owned by an Italian company, the headquarters are in Lake Forest, California. Two decades after its foundation, the company raised $230 million during its first IPO. It has since expanded into selling ski goggles and chin guards but still manufactures in the United States. After selling Oakley, Jannard launched Red Digital Cinema in 2007.
