Constantinos ‘Danny’ Filippidis was out on an annual trip with friends and colleagues in New York when he disappeared. Just six days later, he turned up in Sacramento, California, almost 3,000 miles away. That’s where he contacted the police and gave his name, saying he’d been missing from New York. Officers who responded to the call showed up and found the firefighter dressed in his ski clothes. When asked how he’d gotten there, the man couldn’t remember much. The last thing he remembered was skiing.

That’s just what happened in this case with Dr. Salazar, a psychiatrist from Seville, Spain. He disappeared suddenly in 1995 without a trace. After years of searching, he was declared dead in 2010. However, in 2015, two shocked mushroom pickers discovered a disheveled Salazar living reclusively on the coast of Northern Tuscany. The two men left the doctor there before contacting the authorities. By the time investigators came looking for him, Salazar disappeared again, not wanting to be found.
